Newfoundland Vacation 2025

Newfoundland Vacation 2025

This summer, we spent our vacation in beautiful Newfoundland mostly in a town close to my heart called Heart’s Delight–Islington, and its everything its name promised – full of charm, hospitality, and breathtaking ocean views. Tucked away along Trinity Bay, this small coastal town gives a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Read along further of a close to daily account of all things rest and relation in the most peaceful, relaxing place known, Newfoundland.

We arrived in Newfoundland on July 29th with a quick stop at my brothers place in the happily named town of Paradise that evening for a quick BBQ before proceeding around the bay to Heart's Delight–Islington.

Day one

... was a relaxing day spent with a stroll around town, the old swimming hole and stopping in to say "hi" to my many relatives who live in the town. A simple way to begin the vacation. In the evening we had a few drinks, played a number of card games and Paige spent some time doing hair care with Poppy. ie. Plucking hair from Poppies ears.

Day 2

... we took a quick trip to Carbonear to visit the TC Square and pick up some groceries and supplies for the planned Saturday party. Later in the day we went to my sisters house for a crab boil: crab, mussels, scallops and shrimp. The girls took a dip in their aunties hot tub before calling it an early night.

Day 3

... was another day of rest and relaxion. I met my brother in Cavendish in the afternoon with his dog Herbert Jamal Sooley Esquire the III and we walked down the old track having a few beers, chatting and throwing the ball for HJS. Needless to say there were many beers drank and it took a few hours to do the walk, but a great time. Later in the evening we went back up the track to an old swimming hole so the girls could go for a dip

Day 4

... was shed party day. It was time for shindig. Saturday afternoon/evening we invited friends and family to mom and dads to have a shed party. Many came, good times were had, and a late night ensued.

Day 5

... was a hung over and fishing day. What a beautiful, calm, peaceful, foggy day on the water. We got our fish, Cod for those who don't know, in about 20 minuets and were headed back into shore with Dad needing to use the compass to get us in do to the pea soup fog.

Day 6

I have no idea what we done this day, so I can only assume nothing.

Day 7

... we headed into St. John's early in the day to visit Jodi's uncle and do some touring around Petty Harbour, Fort Amherst, and St. John's before heading out to Salmonier Line where we had a wonderful visit and stay with friends. The kids got to spend the evening swimming while we chatted over drinks.

Day 8

We spent the night at friends cabin, Steve and Sherry, and we were up early for breakfast so we could spend some more time on the water on the tube before heading back to Hearts Delight - Islington.

Day 9

... Jodi and I spent relaxing. Mom and dad took Sadie and visited Cupids. In the evening I done some visiting as Jodi was not feeling well and ended up at Darryl and Nancy's at her mothers birthday party with more live entertainment.

Day 10

... Sonya and Ken hosted a fish fry for us and a few others including a couple of their Come from Away (CFA) relatives who got the surprise of a Newfie Screech in performed by Dad. Later that evening Jodi and I went and visited Jason and Lori at their trailer and site of their future home and had a few drinks. It was nice to see them and catch up.

Day 11

... was another day that I don't remember what we did except for some wondering around town visiting friends and family. In the evening we met up with Heather and Robyn and their kids. Our kids all get along so well and we cant wait till we see them all again. Later in the evening Jodi and I went to Brad and Crystal's trailer for some drinks and chats.

Day 12

... was a bitter sweet day, we headed back to town (St. John's) to my brothers for the last couple of days and it would be time to say good bye to my parents. This time back to town though, instead of taking the regular 1.5hr drive back, we done the Irish Loop, adding about an additional 3hrs to the regular route. But we seen some amazing scenery and got to spend that addition time together.

Day 13

the day is here, our last day, a sad day. We spent the day visiting Jodi's family, touring around St. John's and metro and then spent the evening with Mike and Shana's, having a great meal together then relaxing with a few drinks, all while keeping a close eye on the new forest fire at Paddy's Pond.

Day 14

so long Newfoundland, until next time.

Scenic Beauty Everywhere

One of the highlights of our trip was simply enjoying the views of Trinity Bay. Whether we were sitting with a coffee in the morning or watching the sunset in the evening with a beer, the water never looked the same twice. On calm days, it sparkled like glass, and on windy days, the waves reminded us of the power of the ocean.

Now after a great summer with a constant flow of family and friends visiting our home and us theirs, it time for me to get back on the healthy eating and exercise train. I've gained far too many pounds over these last months, while it was enjoyable to gain them, it's now time for them to go.

And remember if you are visiting the island and need a place to stay, make sure to check out my parents rental Across the Cove.
