Vacation 2024 - Six Flags - Great Escape, Lake George

Our trip to this fantastic destination was a whirlwind of fun, offering the perfect mix of adrenaline-pumping rides, serene relaxation, and memorable moments. It was a wonderful vacation and just a short 4 hours away from Ottawa. We left home on Monday morning for a short 3.5 - 4 hr trip to Lake George, NY. This back rural country of New York state is a pleasure on your eyes from the breathtaking beauty of the mountainous regions, picturesque towns and mystique rivers and lakes. Unfortunately for us on the drive down, it down poured, cats and dogs, elephants and giraffes. It was a slow and painful drive but, we made it alive and well at about 1330hrs. Since check in at the hotel was not until 1600hrs we to a trip to Walmart to get a few essentials for the hotel room and then grabbed a early dinner at Olive Garden.

Arrival and First Impressions

From the moment we pulled up to the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge, we knew we were in for a treat. The charming Adirondack-themed architecture immediately set the tone for a cozy and inviting stay. The lobby, with its rustic décor and friendly staff, made us feel welcome from the get-go. Check-in was smooth, and we were given a quick rundown of all the amenities available to us during our stay. And I should mention, included in the cost of the hotel was admission to the indoor water park, the theme park and the outdoor water park each day for all of us.

The Room: Comfort Meets Convenience

Our room was spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed with families in mind. The kids were thrilled with the bunk beds, just joking. We're to cheep to get a special room with bunk beds for the kids, they slept together in one bed but if they did I'm sure it would have added an element of fun to the room. The comfortable beds, mini-fridge, and ample storage space made it easy to settle in.

The Indoor Waterpark: A Splashing Good Time

One of the highlights of our stay was the indoor waterpark, White Water Bay. The waterpark is conveniently located right inside the lodge, so we could easily pop in for a swim or a ride down the lazy river without leaving the building. The kids couldn't get enough of the thrilling water slides and the surfing attraction, while we enjoyed the cold beers at 12 bucks American and the lazy river. (we learnt and brought our own drinks in a water bottle the next nights) The waterpark was a big hit with everyone and a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon and the nights before bed.

Six Flags Great Escape Theme Park: An Adventure for All Ages

Just a short walk across the parking lot and across the bridge over the road is the Six Flags Great Escape Theme Park, where the real adventure begins. We spent all of Tuesday at the park checking everything out and it was a beautiful day to do so at about 20 degrees. The park was a delightful blend of classic amusement park charm and modern thrills. For of us adrenaline junkies, rides like the Comet roller coaster and the Sasquatch drop tower provided the perfect dose of excitement. The kids were thrilled with the variety of rides and attractions designed just for them, like the charming Storytown area, which brought back fond memories of my own childhood visits back in the cough, cough eighties.

The park also features plenty of family-friendly rides, so we could all enjoy the experience together. We took a spin on the Grand Carousel, enjoyed a scenic ride on the Sky Ride, and even braved the Thunder Alley go-karts. The park's layout is easy to navigate, and we never felt overwhelmed by the crowds, even during peak times.

Dining Options: Something for Everyone

One of the pleasant surprises of our trip was the variety of dining options available both at the lodge and the theme park. Inside the lodge, we enjoyed the free breakfast each morning from 0700hrs - 0900hrs, which had a selection of gluten free options for our youngest who is celiac.

At the theme park, we found plenty of choices to keep everyone happy including one restaurant that provided gluten free though it was closed both of our visit days. From quick snacks like pretzels and ice cream to more substantial meals like pizza and burgers, there was something to satisfy every craving. The park's food stands are conveniently located, so we never had to go far to find something delicious.

Extra Fun: Character Meet-and-Greets and More

One of the unique aspects of staying at the Great Escape Lodge is the character meet-and-greets. The kids loved getting up close with some of characters including the storytime sessions.

The lodge also offers a range of family-friendly activities, from arts and crafts sessions to movie nights, ensuring there's always something fun to do. We made the most of these extra perks, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to our stay.

Wrapping Up Our Stay

Our time at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark was everything we hoped it would be and more. The combination of the cozy lodge, thrilling theme park, and fun-filled waterpark made for a vacation that was both exciting and relaxing. Whether you're looking for a quick weekend getaway or a longer stay, this destination offers something for everyone. We left with hearts full of happy memories!
