Teachers Strike - What Grinds my Gears

Teachers Strike - What Grinds my Gears

You know what Grinds my Gears, I know some people will not like my point of view on this and that ok. I've been saying this since the beginning of the teachers strike in Ontario and had heard rude remarks back any time I said it. I will preface this and say I do not blame the teachers a bit but place full blame on their union.

The union has been stating that the strike has not been about money but rather about other classroom things such as class sizes and e-learning just to name a couple. While I do believe that these items are important and I do not want my children in bigger classes or forced to do e-learning. I also do not believe that money had no factor in the strike and I would have rather they stated it in the beginning.

I know, I would not want to be offered a 1% raise, its a slap in the face as it is to the teachers as well. I also know the teachers are stuck between a rock and a hard place as they cannot say its about the money or they gain support of some public while pissing off their union so if they make the strike solely about classroom items they keep the support of most of the parents and their powerful union.

But what happens if the Government of Ontario gives into the unions supposed demands that are not money related as they announced? It seems that the union will be rejecting the deal. Because you know why? It's about the MONEY too.

If you are going to strike lay the wants on the table, be honest on what you want, do not mislead the public for now you will truly lose a lot of the support that you had because of this one misstep and that's what Grinds my Gears.
