I had the most unfortunate reason to fly out west to Edmonton this week. Jodi's dad, my father in law, had a heart attack on Saturday. We found out on Sunday morning due to the fact we were busy and out all day Saturday.
Once we got the news on Sunday, we started to look for flights out. Jodi flew out on Sunday with WestJet and I decided to wait another day and fly Monday with WestJet since it was going to be about a third of the price.
So I arrive at the airport, grab sixty bucks from the bank machine, make it through check-in, through security smoothly, and on the plane in record time.
Now here I am sitting on the plane at 36,880 feet, jettin along at 485mph at 8:05p.m. sitting in row 2 seat D. Now remember this row 2 seat D. I am the sixth person on the plane from the front.
Excellent, I now see the stewardess taking out the food card to move back through the rows with sandwich's, drinks and snacks for sale. Wow quick service, since I am in the second row, but wait no sandwiches? WTF? A four and a half hour flight and no sandwiches after the first row.
Ok, I'm calm now. So the stewardess offers me the next best thing for $6.50..... wait for it.... its a..... ta da... "JetPack". You heard it, a JetPack. I'll get to the JetPack a bit later, right now I to pay for the JetPack. So take out our wonderful currency, a nice crispy twenty only to learn they no longer accept cash. WestJet no longer accepts cash. Visa, MasterCard or Amex only. My only problem here is I didn't take my Visa with me, since I travel with cash. However would I pay for this craptacular JetPack? I dig and root through my wallet to find my work Amex that I have never used before, and here I am now having to use it for $8.36 on a flight.
I'm sure you are wondering now what a jet pack is. Well its a 193 gram box of 6 items of crap. Actually 5 items of crap since it did have a 18 gram package of beef nuggets. The very berry, nut and gluten free bar was dryer than a popcorn fart, the process cheese spread smelled and looked like mayo left in the hot sun for an afternoon. Don't ever buy this on a WestJet flight. Who ever approved this for sale to humans on a plane, should have to take a ride with snakes on a plane, without Sam Jackson on board.
So I am here now, arrived in Edmonton, save and sound. Dave had his tests today and seems to be doing much better. He had two blockages, one at 80% and the other at 50%. He was able to avoid getting the balloon test done, and they were able to get the blockages gone. The bi-pass he had done 15 years ago is good and no problems there. He is vowing he will be leaving and going home today, but that will not be happening. But hopefully he will be out before the end of the week. We are heading there shorty to see him.
As for WestJet I wouldn't fly them again if I didn't already have my flight booked back, but do you fly the devil you know or the devil you don't?
