Canadian banking just took a turn for the best. :-)

Great news on the Canadian banking front. A bank that I have been with for the last eight years for my general savings, mutual funds, U.S. savings account and our mortgage, has just announced yesterday that they will now be offering FREE full serve Chequing Account.

If you haven't guessed what bank this is yet. It is INGDirect. I have loved ING since the beginning for their high interest, low to no fee banking and now it just got into a whole new ball game.

With this announcement ING will offer:

  • FREE chequing accounts;
  • Access to over 2400 bank machines across Canada;
  • FREE deposits and withdraws;
  • Pay bills online;
  • FREE email money transfers;
  • Covers you up to $250 on overdrawn funds with no fee or interest;
  • 0.25% interest on your balance;
  • Mobile Banking;
  • FREE cheques;

I think this is excellent news and I will be opening an account and moving all of my services to ING now. I will be saving about $50+ a month which is $600+ over a year all while earning interest on my balance.

If you all ready have an account, go to ingdirect.ca and read up on it and jump on. If you don't all ready have an account with ING Direct account, open one up now. If you use my referral code you will also receive a $25 bonus deposit.

My ORANGE KEY is 14477247S1 and you can visit http://www.ingdirect.ca/referafriend to enter that number and sign up for the $25 bonus and take advantages of what ING Direct has to offer!!!

Booooo....

I signed up for the 'preview' account as well. Couple sticking points for me though :

- lack of free ATMs anywhere useful (i.e. none in Ottawa). you'll pay a fee at the others.
- not-so-free cheques (first cheque book is free only)

I dunno, the only things that really makes it better than PC Bank IMO is the free email transfers and free $250 overdraft.

Its a starting point though

Its a starting point though for ING, and hopefully form comments from clients, they will make more changes to make it work best for all and possibly ridding those sticking points for you.
